The malnutrition is one of the great problems that plague the world. That’s why from the Grupo Siro Foundation they have elaborated a ‘Nutritional Cookie’ full of vitamins and minerals with the aim of being a revolutionary invention in the field of nutrition. Among its components is also the vitamin D.
This nutritional cookie has been modified to house a large amount of minerals and vitamins essential for any human being. Thus, the purpose of this ‘superfood’ is to provide nutrients, energy and at least 50% of the vitamins and minerals recommended daily. It is a pioneering project that seeks to eradicate malnutrition in the world.
In addition, one of the most encouraging aspects of this nutritional cookie is that it would only cost 0.30 cents. Thanks to being so affordable, the Grupo Siro Foundation aims to help the almost 690 million people in the world who suffer from malnutrition.
According to FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) 8.9% of the world’s population suffers from malnutrition. Furthermore, in the last five years this figure has increased by 60 million people.
Biscuit enriched with vitamin D
This cookie enriched with vitamin D, among other elements, has been officially presented this July. Thus, the creation of this product is not for profit. The main objective is to distribute it through collaborative networks with institutions that also aim to eradicate malnutrition anywhere in the world.
In this sense, Juan Manuel Gonzáñez-Serna, president of the Grupo Siro Foundation, explains that “ending malnutrition in the world is a very ambitious goal that we cannot achieve alone. We have managed to develop this product at a very low cost, and this is the first step.
However, he warns that “we need to collaborate with other institutions, companies and organizations that share our purpose so that it can reach those populations that need it most and we are already weaving that network of collaborators that is open to new partners.”
In addition, the elaboration of this super nutritious cookie has had the supervision and recommendations of the CODEX Alimentarius Global: in addition to the Pan American Health Organization.
Properties of the ‘nutritional cookie’
This nutritional cookie is different from other fortified products, mainly because of its low price that is affordable for anyone. But it is also that, with its intake, it is possible to incorporate into the body at least 50% of minerals and vitamins that a person needs on a daily basis.
Thus, this cookie has in its composition vitamin D, A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, C, and E. It also houses folic acid, calcium, iron, magnesium and iodine; It is a source of protein and high in fiber.
For the elaboration of this gallera, wholemeal flours, high oleic sunflower oil and very small amounts of sugars and salt have been used; being below the levels stipulated by the World Health Organization (who). In addition, it has a rating of Nutriscore A.
For his part, the resident of HM Hospitales, Juan Abarca Cidón, points out that «since HM Hospitales became aware of the existence of this nutritional cookie we have turned to this initiative because we share the values that drive Fundación Grupo Siro to its development ».
In addition, he added, “as health professionals it is inconceivable that in the XXI century there are still problems of malnutrition in the world, and this initiative, by combining innovation, talent and teamwork, is making decisive progress in solving this problem global endemic ‘.
Therefore, to corroborate the efficacy of consuming this cookie as a multi-nutrient supplement, the Grupo Siro Foundation has chosen Guatemala to launch a clinical trial with a group of 200 children between 3 and 6 years old; all of them belong to the Caritas Aquidiocesana network of Guatemala.
